First some cultural information
Belo Horizonte was the first experience with planned cities in Brazil early 1900 (we have others: Brasilia of course Teresina, capital of the state of Piaui and most recently, Palmas, capital of the state of Tocantins).
It is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. What is Minas Gerais in Brazilian historical mentallity. Minas is what Massachussets or Pennsylvania represents in American history: the very begining of the fight for liberty. The state is proud of its cultural and historical heritage. Some of the most beautiful historical cities in Brazil are located there: Ouro Preto, Mariana, Congonhas, São João del Rey, Diamantina, Sabará, to name but a few.
In my country they say that paulistas (natives of the state of São Paulo) work, cariocas (natives of Rio de Janeiro) rest in the beaches and mineiros (natives fo Minas Gerais) make politics. I may not agree with this kind of thougth (Rio for instance is our second largest city and the state of Rio de Janeiro is the second most industrialized in the country. Cariocas works too much), but Minas, indeed, represents the Reason, the balance in political history of Brazil. Besides it is the third most industrialized state in the country. Well enough of culture. Let's see it's beautiful capital
First some skyline views taken from Mirante das Mangabeiras (Mangabeira Viewpoint)
Now some images taken from Praça Castelo Branco Viewpoint
From the same place you can see this avenue, the Bias Fortes Ave.
Now some streets scenes. Let's start with Afonso Pena Ave. In my point of view the most beautiful avenue in Brazil!!!
Afonso Pena's Avenue "Big Wall"
If there are words to define this city (remember I was born here, I'm suspect!!!!) is SOFISTICATION AND ELLEGANCE. Pay attention to the next photos.
Praça da Liberdade and the Governors Palace (Liberty Palace in the background)
Contrasts between old and new
Here some of BH's most beautiful churches: The first one the Lourdes Churche: exterior and interior:

Here is where the Afonso Pena Av begins it's way toward the Serra do Curral (Cural Mountains) in the background
Here is where begins the Amazonas Ave, the longest ave. in the city, in it's way to it's end, some 30 km away, when it transforms on the highway to São Paulo
Now some cities of the State of Minas Gerais interior

And last, but not least, Araujos, the city where a grow up from 1 year old to 21, when I moved to Brasilia
Well, that's for today!! As you can see all of them, from the big one to the smaller, have their skycrapers
